The Course

verso Fenils

The course will be carrefully marked and will run through wooded paths, single track and old jeep trails.
Distances have been thoroughly measured with a calibrated wheel and will be indicated every 5km.

From Cesana to Claviere the K22 and the Trail des Forts folow the same course.
You will hike up to Mt. Chaberton summit (3131m) and then run downhill long a technical single-track trail.

The detailed map and the elevation map will give you a synthetic idea of the course.

Better runners will be expected in Claviere within 2:30 hours

  • The first 5 km of the course follow an undulating country path that lead you to Fenils after 100m of elevation loss.
  • From Fenils starts the uphill climb to Mt Chaberton.
  • The course follows mostly an old jeep military dirt road and a shortcut track every time it's convenient.
  • You will pass Pra Claud hamlet (1600m elevation), Grange Quagliet water station (2000m),Col du Chaberton (2700m) and arrive to the Chaberton summit (3131m).
  • To go back to Col du Chaberton the course will follow the straightest downhill line but runners who want can go down long the military dirty road.
  • From Col du Chaberton check point you will follow an easy and visible downhill singletrack that will lead you along the most direct line to Plan des 7 fontaines (1km500) .
    Any variation could bring you on dangerous ground.
  • After 4,500km of an easy course you will arrive in Claviere : 20,5km from the start, arrival line of "k22" race and water station .
  • From this point the course changes side of the valley. Course features and vegetation will be different.
    You will go uphill threw a larch forest and you will be able to run most of the time.
  • After 10 km when you will reach the boundary crest and Mt Chenaillet summit (2650m).
    In this part of the course you will be running threw a protected geological area.
    Take a special care of this part of the course, follow the path even downhill when it could be tempting to get out.
  • Following the crest in a beautifull open landscape you will pass the Gondran fortress and join the foot of Mt Janus. You will reach the summit after 250m of elevation gain.
    In the way up have a glance to the spectacular view of the course : you can feel proud, you've done it!.
  • The last 5 km are easy and gentle take your time... Montgenèvre will wait for you.

In case of bad weather condition the race course could be modified at any moment even after the start of the competition.

Aid stations

  • 2 aid stations between Cesana and Claviere: water and Coca Cola: km. 10 e 13 (summit of Mt.Chaberton);
  • 1 aid station in Claviere : water Coca Cola and food
  • 3 aid stations from Claviere to Montgenèvre ( water, Coca Cola): km.26 ; 30 e 36.

Cut-off time

"K22":

  • Uphill at the "col du Chaberton": 3 hours from the start
  • Finish line closing time 5 hours from the start.

"SkyMarathon dei Forti":

  • Cut-off time in Claviere 4:30hours from the start
  • Finish line clmosing time 9:30 hours from the start.

Runners who haven't reach cut-off time check point by appropriate times will be disqualified.
Runners who want to continue the race under their own responsability must give back their time chip to the route marshall and will not benifit anylonger of the support of the organisation. .
